Playable races: Tengu

#1
Tengu already exist in Guild Wars lore as both the Angchu and Sensali tribes and this race continues to be a large fan favourite. It would be a shame to not include Tengu as a playable race in GW2.

Guild Hall "Village"

#2
Allow the members of a guild to own or inhabit smaller dwellings within the guild hall, a place to display their favorite weapons, plaques with titles, trophies, etc. The dwelling could be personalized, with materials, shape, and size picked by the player

World-Changing Events

#3
Maybe, every once in a while, especially preceding new expansions, there could be an event that actually changes the world itself. Let me give you an example before you say anything. Lets say, some time, long after the initial release of GW2, they announced an event which would allow all the players of the world to travel to a site outside Arah where they would be able to participate in a mission where they would attempt to take back Arah from the dragon that holds it (probably would involve more than one team of players at a time). We could call it "Remember the True Gods!". For about a month, people would be able to participate in this, and, after that month is over, players would be able to walk through the streets of Arah as a city reclaimed. Players might still be able to participate in the mission by visiting the old site outside of Arah as well.

Then, lets say, about a month later, the Canthan army shows up and starts raiding coastal areas all over Tyria. People would be able to play a series of missions where they the repel Canthan invasion, and after about a month or so of that, Canthan soldiers, who had been appearing in the open areas would start to disappear and the new expansion would come out which would allow us to take the fight to Cantha (I really want to slug it out with this new emperor).

Anyway, that was only an example. Not all of these events need be followed by an expansion, but it would be a great way to add in new content without adding new campaigns. I know it would be hell to program and the devs have already said some things about expansions and campaigns, but I'm just asking if you would like to see these world changing assuming they are possible.

When I first posted this idea in January, there were some really great comments on it that helped elaborate on the idea. You can read them by clicking here

Randomized enemy appearance

#4
Instead of cloned enemies coming after you, what if each (or just a couple) were different in height/color/armor type? Even a few random changes to one or two enemies could add a bit more realism into the game and add a little variety when killing giant mobs.

Mounts as Companions

#5
The premise of this idea is fairly simple: combine companions and mounts. Preposterous as it sounds at first, this actually solves several problems posed by incorporating companions and mounts separately.

First, let us deal with a few of the problems caused by mounts. Number one is how to deal with the needs of several races, of different sizes and with different cultures who would all need mounts which suited them. Asura are easy, they could ride golems. Humans could ride anything. Sylvari might ride animated plant constructs, but it would be a pity if those couldn’t fight on their own.

The Norn, however, are too big to ride just about anything I saw in the original GW games short of a hydra. Not to mention the fact that Norn will be capable of transformations in the next game and will either be forced to choose between using mounts or transformations or be force to deal with the sight of a giant bear-man riding a horse.

The Charr have a similar problem. They would look silly riding just about anything other than their siege beasts, and what sense does it make to be toeing around a siege devourer if you can’t lay siege to something with it. That, however would give the Charr an unfair advantage unless all the other mounts were capable of something similar, but if you have that and a companion by your side who also will need a mount to keep up with you, and how is that different from having three companions?

Then there are even worse problems caused by companions. Firstly, we can’t have 3’000 Dunkoros running around in a continuous world. That’s just ridiculous. We could be capable of customizing their appearance, but that still leaves us with the other problems. Another problem is the question, “Why can we only have one companion?” It really doesn’t make a lot of sense to have a party of just two. More than that, why should they not count as part of our party but rather as part of our character? That would mean parties of sixteen, and if mounts can fight then that would turn a party of eight players into a party of forty-eight combatants roving the plains. Lastly, why would we be compensated for not using a companion? It makes no sense. Do companions suck the life force out of our characters to sustain themselves?

Granted, many of these problems do not need to be fixed in order to have a running game (technically, you could have 3,000 Dunkoros roaming the plains) but why put up with a problem when there is a simple way to fix it: combine companions and mounts.

This is all based off if the idea that there is no real difference between a mount that can fight while you’re not riding on it and a companion. Besides that, it answers all of the aforementioned questions and problems. No one will ask questions if 3’000 mounts who look alike are roaming the field. It makes sense that you would not be able to bring more than one mount wherever you go, and of course they wouldn’t count as part of our party: they’re mounts. Their ability to combine with your character as well as their sub-par fighting capabilities could compensate for their propensity to double the size of your party. Finally, the benefits lost by bringing a mount could be seen as a representation of the extra energy needed to maintain control of a mount in battle.

It is perfectly natural to assume that Charr would both fight alongside their siege beasts and use them as mounts. As for the Norn, they would need neither mounts nor companions. They would need to be compensated for their lack of a companion, but it makes sense that the Norn would travel alone. Also, they are a bit too large for any mount and they could be made capable of running at increased speeds over set distances on account of their superior physique. Their transformations would also compensate for the combat abilities denied them by their lack of mounts.

The unique nature of mounts made for each race would add variety to the game and could be used as part of the race advantages system. As each mount would be different, each could have different abilities. All of them would need to be capable of equitable speed so that parties could stay together, however, their combat and defensive capabilities could vary widely.

Each should complement the advantages and disadvantages of each race and be suited to each races attitudes and customs. For example, the Asura, being magically adept, would probably need their golems to protect or heal them in battle while they cast spells. Some golems might also augment the strength of Asura warriors in battle, compensating for their physical weaknesses.

I will shortly post links to pages proposing more specific ideas for each race both here and on my personal suggestions page if you are interested in finding out more.

Hairstylist

Some kind of in-game feature (NPC) that would allow you to change your character's hair (color, style, etc) after that character has been created.

Sailing and Naval Combat.

Battle can take place in many environments, and each can produce it's own experience if the environments are interactive enough and disticnt in challenge and situation. But few are as unique or interactive as a moving environment, instead of simply battling on the land, battles could take place on moving ships on the sea.

With Guilds comes the opportunity to have guild owned ships instead of just Guild Halls, with this customizable and player controlled vessel, Guilds could explore the open seas, visit new locations for exploration and conquest, and most of all, engage in open combat on the sea, naturally brining together two mobile environments on a liquid plain.

The ability to steer your ship, operate it's propultion and armament, attack ship to ship, or board eachothers ships and fight directly in normal combat fashion allows this means of battle to be deeply original from most games as well as adding exponentially more activities than in the normal combat structure.

Spells need real effects not just redundant effects.

#9
OK to put this simple; when my elementalist casts Armor of Earth why cant i see rocks on my characters in the shape of armor for the spells duration, or why not have Well of Blood actually raise a well from the ground full of bloss that moves to the injured ally character. It doesn't even have to be this complex I just got bored of the fact that half of the spells form magical floating green circles, half the attacks are different colored balls of light, and the rest of the effects didn't show up at all except for in the top left corner of my screen telling me they were there. I just like the idea of a more intense battle with some real effort put into the battle imagery. Even blood would have been nice now and then (not ridiculously graphic of course.)
Sorry for any spelling or grammar errors im tired.

Housing

#10
I like the idea of owning a house in game. A place where my char can go. A place to furnish and decorate. Like the gh there can be a storage chest to store your things and a extra storage space in the house alone that isn't connected to the storage. A large one at that. Maybe it could be set up for keeping your extra armor and your best items. Each char would get their own house so you can decorated differently if you choose to. To get your house you would buy it from a npc then you can click on the button designated for your resident and click to go to your house.. similar to Go to guild hall button. You can choose what region you want your house located for example.. in eotn.. you could choose any of the areas there.. or any areas in Kryta.. etc.. or in any areas in factions or nightfall..You start out with a hut and can buy bigger houses as you gain monetary value. Once you enter your house the first time you can then map to it from anywhere. And if you are in the area where you place your housing you can simply walk or run to it. On map there could be a marker always marking the location of your home. In the area of your home there can be more npcs such as a merchant, residential furnishing npc, collectors...etc.. there is possibility of meeting up with other players passing by your place or using the merchant or colloctors, but they can't enter your home without being invited. In your home you can invite your friends to visit and give them a perma pass to always come. They can use the storage chest in your home and it will be the same as if they were using it in the guild hall, but they can't use the house storage. That storage is for your char alone. If we take the trouble to furnish the house they should be able to use it.. they should be able to sit in chairs, lay on the bed, light a fireplace if you have one. While in the house your char won't be holding their weapon unless they go outside. There is a possibility of hearing a fight taking place outside your door.. Don't worry they can't come in, your char is safe.. unless you want to go out and join the fight. If you die in a fight close to your house you will rez inside. Anet can also set it up where you can hove house parties... purchase a keg for your guest and well you get the picture.. a way of working on that drunkard title...There can be other consumables that can be purchased in bulk for parties. It is just an idea that I know I would like to have in the game. And if you belong to a guild their location of their house will be highlighted on the map as well. Any friends that are in your friends list will be highlighted on the map. You also can walk up to a house and knock on the door. If they are not home you will get a message saying so. You will also get a message if you are invited in or to leave if you were not.

Custom Companions

#11
I just think that if we're only going to be able to have one companion, we should be able to customize their appearance the way we customize our own characters. I've heard that Anet said that they are going to make companions location-based. That would mean that your companion changes when you travel to different regions. I have been unable to confirm this myself, but if it is true then I think we can all agree, Anet can do better. I mean, this does not even solve the problem of Companion sand Henchies in the Continuous World!

I think it would be better for us to be able to create ourselves a companion to go with each character. We could then decide on a race and class which would complement the abilities of our character. They would be just as customizable as our characters and we could equip them with whatever armors and weapons we chose. In order to supply us with enough money to equipp two characters, companions would need not to decrease the drop rate, though. It might also be a good idea to allow players to create a reserve of companion characters parallel to their player characters. A certain number of companions would be available to each account and all companions on the account would be available to each player character. This would make the system a bit more flexible.

Evolving equipment

#12
As players progress through the game, their equipment could begin to take on unique attributes depending on the player's style of play. These attributes would likely not be attainable any other way (i.e. they could not be added by crafting/upgrading/etc).

For example, Jeni the ranger makes it a point to interrupt all spell casters in any enemy groups that her party encounters. Her old Ascalon longbow begins to "learn" from her tactics and after enough successful interrupts, gains the "Magebane" attribute that increases dazed duration by 10% (or something to that effect).

Combine the above with the ability to name equipment and some kind of donation/recycling (http://www.guildwarsideas...Donate_items), and you'd have a game where weapons/equipment will have a history in the game... some even becoming legendary.

Quivers

#13
Why does my character magically pull arrows out from his back? I think it would be much more realistic to implement a quiver onto each ranger type class...maybe it could be a piece of equipment with stats? Or maybe it's just an automatic object when a hood or top piece are equiped. Maybe for the ranger type class for the Norn or Charr they can have a quiver on their belts or something.

EDIT: Since there have been several negative comments regarding this topic, I'd like to clarify what I mean by adding quivers into the game...
I would like to see quivers in the game, but definitely not a separate source of ammunition. Rather, when somebody equips a bow..a quiver with a similar skin and ammo is automatically generated with the same dynamics as GW1 where the ammo is unlimited. I just think it would be nice to add some variety and realism while maintaining the GW1 feel of a ranger. Sure, a lot of you might want to just keep it the way it is...but this is GW2 and I love the storyline and the gameplay and I expect a lot more out of it...if you want to keep the old school stuff then just play a flash game where everything is simple...

Now then, not to drift off topic, I also think that the ammo shot should have the same skin as the bow and quiver. A wooden bow has a wooden quiver and arrows, a jade bow has a jade quiver/jade arrows etc etc. Just because its a wooden bow with wooden arrows will not make it any less potent though. I hope this clears up any confusion!

Explain your thoughts =)

Guild Recruitment

#14
Guild Recruitment should get a completely different approach in GW2. While people still will be able to add new members, it could be done in many different ways. One being the normal way from GW1, Another would be having a house in every town where you can make an add to all outposts/villages/towns in the game where your guild recruiting message comes up on a poster board. You activate the poster board and all the active posters is there. You can sort them in many ways and when you find a guild that you'd like to join you send them a message by filling in a form. These forms will then be found in the guildhall where the leader or an officer can pick it up and Accept or Deny your request to join. Guilds should also be character specific, and as a leader you could be able to assign your officers different titles.

I hope you get the main idea ^^

Centaur already exist as a race in Guild Wars, wouldn't you like to be one in Guild Wars 2?
