Answer for: Guild Wars 2 Developments

#19 No Dwarves :(

I think we can all agree that the dwarves will either be a non-existant, or nearly powerless force in GW2. In Eye of the North, supposedly all the Dwarves were endowed with the power of the great dwarf, turning them to pure stone, and making them eternal weapons whose soul purpose was to hunt the destroyers into the depths. Now I'm sure the didn't take EVERY dwarf to battle, some had to have stayed in the southern and northern shiverpeaks, and I doubt the Stone Summit were interested in risking their necks to help out the deldrimor dwarves, but as the lore has been laid out, they slowly die off, the "Hero's Handbook" in Eye of the North even states that "...with the sacrafice of the dwarven race we were able to save all the surface dwelling races from this great terror" or something along the lines. It is also apparent that the norn were driven into the empty dwarven stronholds.

*Update* there apparently will be one still active dwarf in Tyria, whether he is stone or not, or if he is a descendant of Ogden is as of yet unspecified,

I guess I'm not really bothered by this because there are dwarves and elves in many of the MMO's and I am ready for a change. I'm glad they are creating original races and taking on something new.

I think more of the comment is that putting Dwarves in would ruin the storyline.

I love dwarves. How could there be none at all?:{
I will miss them. What happened to them in the story then?
They are part of the story and history through it all.

If you have actually read the comment above, played EOTN or read the game lore you would know that the dwarves slowly disappear over the years leading up to GW2, most disappeared fighting destroyers in the depths, then the rest just faded into obscurity with no true purpose or leader. So they would have little or no part in the story of GW2.

Ah no kidding. The facts of a wonderfully made up story can never change. Well so the dwarves go extinct and may never ever return again. So is that always true for all creatures on the planet that are endangered and extinct. Sorry if I got it all wrong.

It is fantasy any thing can happen. Don't take it all so seriously. I just missed the influence of dwarves in stories. Who hates dwarves? I don't know who would in the world myself. There can always be a purpose for all characters in a story with a little imagination.

Got some new info on the dwarves. Can someone add this into the article?

Ree Soesbee: The charr have changed a great deal since the original ...

The dwarves have left the surface of Tyria to hunt Primordus and the destroyers below ground. There is one dwarf active in Tyria, and the players can interact with him, but the others have not been heard from in generations. They have become little more than legend to those races who remained behind. - (http://www.onlinewelte...w-teil-2/6/)
