Keep in mind that GW don't employ the ever more popular "Free2play but you need to buy consumables/mounts/gear for real world cash" stratedgy used by some, especially Asian mmorpgs and games aimed at children.

GW is Actually completely Free to play as long as you bought the CD.

True, Bizak. I wonder if some people just assume there's a "catch".

I like the free to play model of GW. However, I'm most concerned that they make enough money to produce the best quality follow up, with no budget restrictions, but not so much money that they can just retire to their Yachts in the South of France and drive around in very fast cars.

I've played GW longer(since launch) than any other online RPG. This wouldn't be the case if it was a subscription game. Though I have played them in the past, I found the monthly fees tied to other RPGs ultimately a turn off because I felt obligated to play and get my money's worth. Because I have felt no pressure to play GW, I have continued to play, and as a result I've ended up spending more money in ANet's online store than I have on subscriptions to other games.

Funny, that's true for me too. I *may* have spent more on Eve Online, but even that's a close one, when I consider all the expansions and the extra character slots.
