The problem with ritualists is that their primary attribute (Spawning Power) doesn't do anything useful. Adding health to spirits does nothing for item or channeling rits at all and not much for spirit builds, it must be said, since the buff is small.
They did try to fix spawning power by making weapon spells last a bit longer, but it really didn't help that much as most of the best weapon spells (splinter, nightmare etc) have limited activations with plenty of time to use them and in any case the buff is small.
A related problem, similar to the paragon problem, is that groups of multiple rits with lightning spells could do huge spike damage, a problem in PvP, so channelling got nerfed.
The upshot of all this is that its often better to use a different primary and take some rit skills along e.g. A necro or mesmer can use their superior primary attributes with Ancestors Rage and Splinter Weapon, for instance. Of course the effectiveness of these skills when used as a secondary meant that they got nerfed... Poor rits.
Ture, but most of the problems I've seen is when someone with a rit wants to play them like an ele or a mes, or even a war and utilize the weapon spells. The best way to play a Rit, is as a Rit, sos imple, yet people didn't seem to realize that for th elongest time.
My rit can comfortably fit into 3 slots that can be very useful to a party, and fun to play. I can heal better than alot of basic monks, whenever I have been forced to take the place of a healer, my position as a support healer fo rour monk often switches where he is the support. My spirits end up takign enough of the force off me that I can focus on keeping the party at full heath, while I can sacrafice a spirit for big helaing, and make more for consistent healing.
With the SoS update I can also play the part of party-wide healing spikes, or have an army of spirits.
I can also make him part ranger, and use some weapons spells to augment my bow preperations.
So like I said, Rits work best when played in a way that, although similar to other proffesions, is substantially ritualist.
