Answer for: Guild Wars 2 Suggestions

#245 Homes

A home for characters. I see this playing out two ways:

1) A home for individual characters.
2) A home for entire accounts, that would be more for a whole "family" of characters.

This would basically be like the Monument, but customizable, and visitable by other players. A place to show off trophies and spoils of war.

this has already been said and i remain the same, no!
this game isn't about decorating a pretty little house with fluffy toys and sofas, it's about killin stuff, exploring and taking quests and missions.
Go play sims if you want a pretend house!

So, what does RPG stand for again? (Sorry, that was rhetorical and sarcastic.)

But seriously, if the game is only about killing and missions, then we might as well be playing Halo. Which brings up the question, "why are there titles for sweet tooth and drunkard, cartographer, etc.?"

Part of playing an RPG should be about character development. Now, on one hand if you want to play the nomadic mercenary who kills stuff for money and that's all, then by all means you should be allowed to but if I want to play a character with an interest in art or farming, then I should be able to as well. I don't think you should lose anything and you shouldn't be forced into floral arrangement or gardening but these are suggestions for things to do beyond the storyline.

As a photographer, I would love to have a character with a "Master Painter" title. As my wife plays GW with me sometimes, I would love to have an apartment in the guild hall or a house that we could even share.

What does it hurt your character for these things to be there? You can still kill stuff and you shouldn't have to do anything you don't want to.

Now, you stated, "Go play sims if you want a pretend house! " I'll counter with... Go play a FPS if you don't want to role-play your roleplaying character. Turnabout is fair play, afterall.

Now, having said all of that I do agree that this isn't The Sims, so I don't think these should be key aspects of the game, but to blanket-dismiss all non-combat and non-quest ideas is equally failing.

I didn't say dismiss all, but the idea of a house is just a tad OTT don't you think?
i think some non-combat things are good, like festivals, drunkard titles etc.
But 'master painter'? And what do you expect to paint with a computer mouse? A square?
Guild Wars may be an RPG, but it is just not that type of RPG.
There are loads of RPGs out there with houses, pets, combat and more. So instead of trying to turn guild wars 2 into one why don't you start looking for ones that suits your likes as it is.

So instead of trying to turn Guild Wars 2 into Guild Wars why don't you just play Guild Wars.

Seriously though, none of these things are going to break my heart if they're not in the game. That's not why I play, but I like to keep an open mind. The simple truth of the matter is it comes down to implementation. You could put any number of these kind of ideas in the game and it wouldn't have to affect you at all but you're so unimaginative that you just chuck any idea you don't like aside. Seriously.

I like the idea of an apartment in the guild hall, I would like to own one, but mostly I would like to have a collection of trophies of every monster that I have killed to display, of weapons, armors, books, festival stuff and unique objects, one place to fill with everything that I own without the xunai storage limitations...
It would be cool if you could just take anything you like there like exotic plants that grow there.

Also I would like to have a wall made of mergoyle skulls *_* its hard to expect that much tho.

RPG stands for character development. Check any game review and referance RPG, when they say RPG their talking about elements where your character grows or gains effectiveness during gameplay. What it was derived from is irrelavent, every single game ever made is role playing, including the first madden game.

Players should have better guild halls, not homes. If you look at any person who spends their life warring, you'll notice they don't really have a home. Home is where their family lives, or a certain town, but they don't keep a home because they arn't preoccupied with keeping a residence. They move from temporary residence to temporary residence, or just sleep in the wilderness on their endless journeies.

This game may have advanced travel technology and all sorts of means to get back and forth from "home" all the time, but it still doesn't make it more believable that people are playing sims in GW2.

Instead of a home, how about a fortress... a la guild hall, instead of an appartment, how about a customizable sailing ship so they can explore the seas. These are the choices adventurers are faced with, and these are the decisions realistic adventurers would make, choosing to sleep in their fortress or sailship rather than waste effort making a "home" where they would naturally never visit.
